English ciphers

These systems are modern. Say that first, then enjoy the arithmetic. CIPHER will not pretend A=1 was used by Homer, Pythagoras, or the authors of Torah.

Four machines, one alphabet

Ordinal assigns A=1 through Z=26. Reduction folds each ordinal to a single digit: ((n−1) mod 9)+1. Reverse ordinal is 27 minus the ordinal. Reverse reduction reduces that reverse value.

Reduction is often sold as “Pythagorean.” Pythagoras did not use the modern English alphabet. The marketing name is modern numerology, not ancient transmission. CIPHER will use the conventional label only with that warning attached.

The frames match on purpose. Neither result is dressed as the interesting one. A total without a face is a smear.

Modern English alphabetic convention. Not Milesian. Not Hebrew. J is the tenth letter here. It is skipped in the Latin-Hebrew-style mapping.

Modern

English four faces

Spaces, punctuation and digits are stripped. Case is folded. What remains is A–Z. Versioned: English engine v1.0.0, matching Constellation Control.

Project-specific

Hebrew-style Latin

A Latin mapping that borrows Hebrew place-values and skips J. Not Jewish gematria. PLANET EARTH is 420 here. Still not Hebrew.

The interesting total is not dressed differently from the dull one. Matched frames are the ethic.

That is a core lesson.

Notes

  1. Identical by fixture. Constellation Control English engine v1.0.0.
  2. Not a footnote. JOHN LOCKE = 42 and ELON REEVE MUSK = 69 live on reverse reduction.
  3. A modern product. “Pythagorean numerology” on the English alphabet should not be confused with ancient Pythagorean number philosophy.
