In Hesiod she is a Titan, daughter of Earth and Sky, mother of the nine Muses by Zeus. Poets invoked her because song is storage. Without memory there is no epic, no hymn, no named author, no return.
Enheduanna signed clay so the temples would not forget. Locke made consciousness an English working word for what passes in a mind. Mnemosyne is the older office: that the passing can be kept.
The form Μνημοσύνη is Greek. CIPHER will count it as Greek. The English MNEMOSYNE is a later Latin-letter spelling under a modern English machine. The two must not impersonate each other.
